Terms of Service

Last updated: April 1, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using The Praying App ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

The Praying App provides an AI-powered Bible companion, encrypted prayer journal, community prayer features, and related services. The Service is provided "as is" and may be updated, modified, or discontinued at any time.

3. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address and create a passphrase to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your passphrase and Recovery Kit. We cannot recover your data if you lose both.

4. Encryption & Data Responsibility

Your content is encrypted client-side using your passphrase. We do not possess decryption keys. If you lose your passphrase and Recovery Kit, your encrypted data is permanently unrecoverable. You acknowledge and accept this risk as a fundamental feature of the Service's security design.

5. AI Bible Chat

Bible Chat uses AI to provide contextual Scripture information and is intended as a study aid. It is not a substitute for pastoral counsel, professional therapy, or medical advice. AI responses may contain errors. Always verify important theological claims with qualified pastoral leadership.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Post harmful, abusive, or hateful content in community features
  • Impersonate other users or organizations
  • Attempt to circumvent encryption or access other users' data
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Spam prayer requests or community feeds

7. Subscriptions & Billing

Personal and Family subscriptions are billed exclusively through the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) — there is no web checkout for individual plans. Church plans are billed through Stripe via the web church admin portal. Subscription terms, pricing, and refund policies are subject to the respective payment platform's terms. You may cancel at any time from the same channel you subscribed through.

8. Church Accounts

Church administrators are responsible for managing their community within the Service. Administrators can view aggregate engagement metrics but cannot access individual members' encrypted content. Removing a member revokes church-granted access.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, and branding, is the property of The Praying App. Bible text is used under license from respective publishers. Your encrypted content remains yours — we claim no ownership over your prayers, journal entries, or conversations.

10. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for data loss resulting from lost encryption passphrases, service interruptions, or AI response inaccuracies. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months preceding any claim.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
